John Steinmetz
Chairman, CEO

John Steinmetz founded TerraNova in 1999.  He leads the firm’s merchant banking efforts and serves as Chairman and CEO of TerraNova and Chairman of New World Financial Holdings.                                                        

Mr. Steinmetz is a seasoned investment banker and serial entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in investment banking, venture capital and private equity. He has completed more than 50 transactions for both public and private growth companies. Before founding TerraNova, John co-founded Spencer-Trask Securities, Inc. in 1990, an investment banking firm that has provided capital raising and advisory services to companies such as Myriad Genetics, NTN Communications, FirstCom Corporation, and Ciena Corporation. From 1983 to 1990 he served as a capital markets specialist, predominantly in direct equity and private placements, for several notable financial institutions including Smith Barney and Douglas Barclay Investments. Mr. Steinmetz holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.

Art Oswald
Executive Managing Director

Art Oswald is CEO of New World Financial Holdings and Executive Managing Director of TerraNova. He oversees New World Financial Holdings’ businesses and operations. He co-founded New World Financial Holdings in 2014.

Mr. Oswald is a seasoned financial services executive with over 30 years of Wall Street management experience. Before joining TerraNova, he served on the senior management team of Susquehanna Financial Group as Head of Institutional Equity Sales from 2009 to 2013. He was instrumental in building the company's equity research and sales effort by hiring and managing over 140 professionals. From 1999 to 2007, Mr. Oswald served as Head of Institutional Equity Sales at Merrill Lynch Boston, managing the firm’s top institutional client relationships. He was also Head of Boston Equities and the top producing sales professional at JP Morgan from 1992 – 1999. Mr. Oswald began his institutional equity sales career in 1983. During his sales career, he provided advice on equity investments to some of the top mutual fund managers in the world and is widely respected in the institutional investment industry. Mr. Oswald holds an MBA in Finance/Economics from New York University and a BS in Finance/Economics from Fordham University.

Peter Gelb
COO, Senior Managing Director

Peter Gelb is the Chief Operating Officer of TerraNova and is Senior Managing Director in the Investment Banking division. He is also the Chief Financial Officer for New World Financial Holdings.                                                     

Mr. Gelb's career in banking covers a broad range of experience in retail and commercial banking, including: financial management, balance sheet management and securitizations for Chemical Bank (now J.P. Morgan Chase) and a division of Deutsche Bank. During his banking tenure he was the controller of Chemical’s retail banking division and CFO of its mortgage division. Prior to entering banking, Mr. Gelb worked as a strategy consultant with The Michael Allen Company serving as an advisor to major corporations. Prior to that, he was a financial analyst for W.R. Grace where his work included analyzing venture capital and merger and acquisition opportunities. Mr. Gelb began his career as an accountant and is a CPA, licensed in New York. Mr. Gelb holds an MBA from Columbia University and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Craig Cerny
Senior Managing Director, Investment Banking

Craig Cerny is a Senior Managing Director of TerraNova and Senior member of the firm’s investment banking business. He joined TerraNova in 2014.                                                                                 

 

Mr. Cerny has extensive experience in commercial banking management, investment banking, corporate finance, and investment and asset liability management. Prior to joining TerraNova, Mr. Cerny served as Chairman and CEO of Harrington Bank of Indiana from 1992 to 2002 where his team grew the Bank from $100 million to over $600 million in assets and expanded its retail operations. The Bank was sold in early 2002 resulting in excess of a ten-fold profit to the original investor group. In 1996, he led an investment group that acquired Los Padres Bank in the Santa Ynez Valley of California where he served as Chairman and CEO, helping exponentially grow the Bank's assets. From 1985 to 1996 he was a Principal and Director of Smith Breeden Associates, Inc., a bank consulting and money management firm with over $20 billion in AUM and advisement. Mr. Cerny holds a BS and MBA in Finance from the WP Carey Business School at Arizona State University.

Andrew Shepard
Senior Managing Director, Investor Relations & Investment Banking

Andrew Shepard is a Senior Managing Director of TerraNova and leads the firm’s marketing and investor relations efforts. He is also a senior member of the investment banking team.                                                                                               

Mr. Shepard has over 12 years of investment and relationship management experience. Prior to joining TerraNova and New World Financial Holdings, Mr. Shepard was a Director at RINET, Co LLC , a Boston-based wealth manager/multi-family office overseeing nearly $4 billion in AUM. He was a key member of the firm’s investment team where he oversaw the firm’s due-diligence, selection, and monitoring of RINET’s alternative and private-placement investment strategies. In 2011, Mr. Shepard was a Senior Research Analyst at Federal Street Advisors, a Boston-based firm with over $5 billion in AUM. Prior to that role, he was an Associate at Weston Financial, focusing on wealth planning and investment research for high-net-worth individuals. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society. Mr. Shepard holds a BBA with Honors in International Business from George Washington University.

Jeff Nixon
Senior Managing Director, Investment Banking

Jeff Nixon is a Senior Managing Director of TerraNova's investment banking, focused on companies with a positive social impact across technology-related, healthcare, and consumer businesses.                                                                                       

Mr. Nixon is an attorney, investment banker and private investor/entrepreneur who has launched, financed and built over 30 technology companies over the past twenty years in the Internet, nanotechnology, cyber defense, and sustainable environmental technologies. He spends his time working with breakthrough technology companies in the sustainability space. These are companies that focus on clean water, energy, air and improving agriculture and aquaculture yields globally. Mr. Nixon's interest in impact investing began in 1999 as an early angel investor, helping build Foundation Source with software services veteran Doug Mellinger. Today, Foundation Source is the leading provider of services for over 2,000 private foundations through approximately 20 major private client groups including: Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Banc One, Wilmington Trust and Wells Fargo. Mr. Nixon graduated from Colgate University in 1981 and from Boston University School of Law in 1984.

W. Todd Coffin
Senior Managing Director, Debt Investment Banking

Todd is a Senior Managing Director of TerraNova's Debt Investment Banking. He leads all of TerraNova’s structured credit banking efforts, and has significant experience across a range of industries.                                                                                  

Todd joined TerraNova in 2019, after founding Zanbato’s Structured Credit Group in 2017. Prior to that he led Source Capital Group’s investment banking department beginning in 2003, when he created the platform for the firm's deal focus. Prior to joining Source Capital, Mr. Coffin was a founding partner at Hudson Allen and Company. While at Hudson Allen, Mr. Coffin also served as CEO of Sonus Communications (Empire One Telecom), a public telecom company. Prior to Hudson Allen, Mr. Coffin was with Alex Brown & Sons, and started his career at Smith Barney Harris Upham. Mr. Coffin was a founding Board Member and financed Greenbacker Capital Corp., a registered public non-traded GP of Greenbacker Renewable Energy Corp. He holds a BA from Boston University.

Arthur Gutch is a Senior Managing Director in TerraNova’s M&A advisory practice. He has more than 20 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, having acquired, built and managed several high technology and service businesses.

Arthur has recently rejoined TerraNova after a several year absence during which time he was building a next generation technology & media company. Arthur initially joined TerraNova in 2002, where he participated in the founding and operating of several of the firm’s merchant banking companies. During this time, he also founded and completed acquisition financing for Unified Logistics, a specialized logistics company, raising more than $25 million through TerraNova. Arthur has significant operating experience in small and mid-sized businesses and has consulted to both emerging growth and large companies as well as with global executives to develop differentiated corporate strategies and new digital growth/marketing initiatives. Prior to joining TerraNova, he spent 10 years in Silicon Valley where he actively managed and consulted to venture capital financed companies. His areas of expertise include the internet, media & publishing, marketing technology & automation, wireless communications, transportation & logistics, enterprise software, digital imaging, healthcare technology and global new market consulting.

Andre Schwegler
Senior Managing Director, Renewable Energy Investment Banking

Andre Schwegler is a Senior Managing Director of TerraNova, focused on technology-related and clean energy investment banking.                                                                                                           

Mr. Schwegler has over 14 years of experience in corporate finance and investment banking, specializing in project construction financing and late development stage capital for renewable energy developers in the solar and waste-to-energy sectors, and in institutional private placements for public and private companies. Since joining TerraNova Capital in 2003, He has been a lead or participating banker in over 25 placements, totaling over $200 million in growth equity capital for public companies in a broad range of industry sectors and project capital, including tax equity and debt for companies in the renewable energy space. From 1982 to 1997 Mr. Schwegler served as a sales executive and founding board member for three privately-held satellite telecommunications companies. He began his career in 1978 with Arthur Andersen Consulting (now known as Accenture) as a management Information systems consultant. Mr. Schwegler has extensive expertise in the structuring and placement of project construction capital for renewable energy projects, and in the structuring of private placements. He has established numerous relationships among institutional investors that participate in the growth equity and project finance markets. He is a skilled analyst of the operational, financial and technical aspects of companies operating in high-tech, high-growth industry sectors, with an emphasis on renewable energy in the past seven years. Mr. Schwegler obtained a BS degree in Business and Engineering from Clarkson University in 1977.

Mr. Talbot is a well-known research expert in the healthcare and life sciences field with over three decades of Wall Street and asset management experience. His record as an analyst has been compiled mainly at William D. Witter, F. Eberstadt & Co., Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder, Needham & Company, and Drexel Burnham Lambert. Mr. Talbot's expertise in both the medical device and the hospital fields were cited by Institutional Investor Magazine in its All-Star poll for 11 consecutive years. His international coverage included seminal reports on the leading Swiss drug stocks when these companies were becoming widely-owned U.S. healthcare equities, accelerating during the early years of the Clinton Administration. Mr. Talbot founded and managed the first investment trust dedicated to healthcare industry reform which was listed on the London Stock Exchange. He is a former President of the Health Industries Analyst Group in New York, and a contributing author to The Financial Analyst’s Handbook. Hugh Kinsman is a Managing Director of TerraNova's investment banking across the capital structure, focused broadly on technology-related businesses and business services.                                              

Mr. Kinsman brings extensive financial advisory and structured finance experience to his role at TerraNova Capital. Previously, he was a financial advisor with Source Capital Group where he raised debt and equity capital for privately held businesses in the light industrial, energy, telecommunications and business services sectors. Prior to was Chief Financial Officer for a digital media company in the movie showtime listings and movie-related data, where he structured the company’s acquisition financing. Prior to that, he was a Managing Director at Full Circle Capital where he originated, underwrote, executed and monitored multiple portfolio companies in senior and mezzanine debt facilities in the media, financial, business services and information technologies industries, with no loan losses. In addition, Mr. Kinsman led private equity investments in the media and telecommunications sectors as a General Partner at Waller Sutton 2000 L.P. and began his career in the Structured Finance Group of GE Capital, over-seeing a billion dollars in investments in infrastructure, energy and communications. Mr. Kinsman earned his BS in Finance from Penn State University and his MBA from Cornell University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Ted Troth
Managing Director, Investment Banking

Mr. Troth is a Managing Director within TerraNova's investment banking division. He brings expertise in risk management, sales&trading, and a decade of entrepreneurial, operational, and private investing experience. 

From 1997-2009 Mr. Troth worked for several New York investment banks in various front, middle, and back office roles within fixed income and derivatives. After leaving finance briefly in 2009, Mr. Troth joined Galichia Hospital Group in Wichita, KS where he learned from Dr Galichia about the opportunity to build and manage boutique, physician-centric hospitals. Mr. Troth was key in progressing the development of a new boutique hospital in Las Cruces, NM which Galichia Hospital Group will operate. In addition to collaborating with Galichia Hospital Group, Mr. Troth launched Extropy Investments, focusing on opportunities within the emerging bioprinting space. He has invested in and served as the COO of a distressed asset opportunity in Ouray, CO involving the storied Camp Bird Mine. In 2015, Mr. Troth and his longtime friend and business partner, James E. Thompson III “Jimmy”, opened JETLogistics with offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. JETLogistics has worked on two large, cutting-edge “dark warehouse” projects in Beijing and Tianjin. Ted and Jimmy have also opened a dialogue with the head of Mitsubishi Medical Devices China to bring US style and quality healthcare to China, particularly in underserved rural areas. This would be a joint venture with Galichia Hospital Group, which has deep knowledge of bringing quality healthcare to rural areas.
